Hi,
My husband & I are celebrating our 30th anniversary in Greece this June (6-13). We will arrive in Athens at 4:00p and will have that evening(until jet lag sets in) to “explore “ the Plaka neighborhood. We are staying close to the Acropolis museum. The next day we’re doing an all day tour to Nafplion & surrounding area. Spending the night again in Athens then going on a 4 day cruise which will include 1/2 day(evening) in Santorini and 1/2 day evening in Mykonos along with 3 other stops. We will have an afternoon/evening back again in Athens at the end of the week. (Doing an Acropolis tour during day)We’ve never been to Greece and I realize we will be doing a “little bit of everything”. With that in mind here’s some questions for those of you who are “in the know”:
1)What should we try to do in Athens for the couple evenings we are there?
2)Keeping in mind the cruise crowds at Santorini & Mykonos, (5 hours at each)How do we play it smart and take advantage of our time there? Thanks so much!
With so little time available to you on these islands you're better off signing up for your choice of the ship's organized land excursions so you get priority when leaving the ship. Buses and a guide will be waiting to take you on your tour.
Athens: Eat at one of the restaurants on the Mniskleous Steps, on the northern slope of the Acropolis, toward Monastiraki. A bit touristy, but great evening atmosphere.
Santorini: if you only have a half day in Santorini, and its an evening, go to Oia. Picturesque car-free town with the best sunset views.
Thanks for the advice! I looked up Mniskleous It looks like a great area to hang out. The restaurant looks authentic also.
