Turns out we will be in Athens on March 25th (Independence Day). The major sites are closed that day. Any thoughts on places to go or places to avoid that day?
You can find out information about Independence Day on the internet.
In my research I found that it is a very important day. People typically attend church in the morning and in Athens there is a major parade. I'm unsure if this will be the case because of Covid. The Acropolis is open and free of charge.
I think it will be a unique experience.
Many of the roads will be closed that day due to the parade. If you don't want to watch the parade, I suggest a hike up Lycabettus Hill. It offers great views of Athens all the way to the sea. There is a restaurant up there as well. It is a great place to watch the sunset. Most people will enjoy the day off and either visit friends or go out to eat that day. The sites are closed but everything else such as restaurants and shops will be open, although supermarkets and pharmacies will not be open.
I love being in a place when they have a big celebration. Go see what the Greeks do on this special day!
