We arrive in Athens July 2024 family of five adults… then we head to Naxos for a week via ferry then back to Athens. When should we book the ferry tickets? Also what port do you typical arrive at when coming from Naxos to Athens.
Looking for accommodations in Athens as we fly out the following morning. Any suggestions on a location?
It's too late to get a good price (ATH→Naxos flights in July are now over €150 without checked luggage) but still see if you can take an Athens→Naxos flight instead of the ferry.
Otherwise you can book the ferry a few days before. Check schedules and ferry companies on ferryhopper.

For a pleasant trip on a conventional ferry take the Blue Star Delos at 7:30 a.m.
You will be in Naxos around noon.
Buy your tickets on the ferry company website (Blue Star, Seajets, etc.).
You will receive your tickets by email with a QR code to present upon boarding
From the city center you can reach the port by metro (25 minutes) but when I take a ferry in the morning I always stay at the port of Piraeus. There are some (basic) hotels .
The Blue Star ferries to Naxos departs from gate E6/E7 (less than 10 minutes from Piraeus metro station).
jolui, when you advise buying tickets direct, and Blue Star will send them by mail, are you certain that OP is from UK or Europe? If from another continent, is it a good idea to count on receiving tickets by mail? (and incidentally this is just one reason why I wonder why so many people seem unwillling or unable to at least indicate the continent they are coming from).
Janet, with Blue Star or any other ferries Company I'm not aware of any specific issue with non-european regarding the e-ticket process . It's exactly the same process as booking tickets to the Acropolis or the Eiffel Tower. Tickets are sent by email
Email messaging services do not know how to differentiate between countries or regions. Myself I receive and send my emails via an US email provider.
Have you heard of or have you ever had any issues with this process?
My apologies, JoLui. I thought you were referring to "paper copies" sent in envelope, with stamps - not an email one can print out.
