Athens National Archaeological Museum Tickets

Hello there! I will be visiting the National Archaeological Museum with one other person on a Saturday afternoon and I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is necessary to buy tickets in advance online or if I should be ok to purchase them upon arrival at the museum? If it is possible to purchase them upon arrival, am I risking a long wait in line? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

I went to the museum, solo, in October 2018. I don't remember waiting in line to buy my ticket. I might have bought it in advance and printed the ticket. I had a plastic folder to carry tickets. What if my phone had permanently died? My phone did permanently die on my way to Amsterdam, in July 2019. Yes, this place is popular enough to justify buying your ticket in advance. Yes there is a risk that you might not make it to Greece. Every time you plan a trip, there is a chance you won't make it it to your intended destination. I would buy my ticket in advance anyway. You will loose only €12 if you don't make it to Greece.

We got tix in June 2019. We got there maybe 20 min before opening. No line, or maybe 30 people. Of course, things are busy this year. Is this early Sept or late?

I was there earlier this month on a Saturday, the afternoon of July 1st, walked right in and bought tickets for our group of three.
