Is it necessary to pre-book tickets for the National Archaeological Museum in Athens in June? We will be there on 20-21 June, and would like to attend in the afternoon. I am not sure how busy it will be, and/or whether there will be long queues if I don't pre-book tickets.
There is generally no queue at NAM, unless you are unlucky enough to arrive 30 seconds after a group of 50 tourists getting off the coach.
As for the Acropolis Museum in your other Post, it is a little more crowded. It's up to you... either you buy the full price tickets online or you may wait a few minutes to buy them on site.
And remember:
“Happy people don’t need to rush.” :))
I can't predict that queue in June. However, we were in Athens in mid-May and visited the museum, purchased the tickets a week prior to us leaving the US. Our ticket time was between 9-10 and we arrived at 9:30 and waited an hour to get into the Museum (even with the timed ticket). There were no tour groups, just a lot of people waiting to visit.
Sandy is not clear whether the line she experienced was for the ACROPOLIS Museum or lthe N.A.M. I'm guessing it was the first ... I have never heard of timed tickets for N A M. ... but of course much has changed since the Greece tourism boom.
I have never heard of timed tickets for N A M.
This note on the Hellenic Heritage e-Ticket site indicates otherwise:
Entrance exclusively at the time slot of your choice!
We would like to inform you that from 01-04-2024, in all Archaeological sites and Museums where the e-ticket is applied, entrance is only possible during the time slot of your choice. Especially for the Acropolis, this is valid from 4/9/2023.
It goes on to say that there's a 15 minute window on either side of your timeslot for entry.
Janet,
It was for the National Archaeological Museum.
