Greetings fellow travelers!
This will be our first time in Greece; at the end of May 2027 my wife & I will have a week (not enough time!) to explore Athens & Nafplio prior to departing on a Viking cruise. We are in our late 60's, enjoy History & Museums. Thanks to the wonderful information on this Forum we have come up with a game plan listed below. Any suggestions or input is greatly appreciated!
Saturday, May 22 - flight arrives at 11am, plan to take a taxi to the Hotel Hera where we have reservations for 3 nights. We can't check in until 3pm, so we'll drop bags off & maybe check out the Plaka district & get acclimated.
Sunday, May 23 - planning to visit the Kaisariani Monastery in the morning, Can i use Uber or a taxi to get there? (not going to have a rental car until we travel to Nafplio). In the afternoon, check out Ancient Agora?
Monday, May 24 - We have reserved tour guide Faye G's time for the afternoon (would 4pm be good?) to visit the Acropolis & Acropolis Museum. Suggestions for the morning?
Tuesday, May 25 - I have reserved a car with Hertz (picking up on Syngrou Ave & dropping at the Piraeus port). On the drive to Nafplio we are planning to stop at Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth & Ancient Nemea. Do we have time for anything else? We are planning to stay at the Aetoma Hotel for 3 nights (they haven't posted 2027 rates, so no reservation at this time).
Wednesday, May 26 - no concrete plans, just explore Nafplio (Palimidi Fortress, Bourtzi Castle). Suggestions?
Thursday, May 27 - Day trip to visit Mycenae. Is Argos a worthwhile stop? We could also go to Epidaurus, although that's east & maybe it makes sense to stop there on Friday when we drive back to the Piraeus port.
Friday, May 28 - Check out & head to Piraeus. If we stop at Epidaurus, how much time would we need? Need to drop the car off by 1pm. How close is the Hertz facility to where the Viking ship is docked?
