Athens & Nafplio Itinerary

Sunday, May 23 - planning to visit the Kaisariani Monastery in the
morning, Can i use Uber or a taxi to get there?

Yes, it's only about a 15-minute taxi ride. However, I'm not sure how you'll find a taxi to get back. Maybe you can ask the driver to pick you up at a set time. There's no need to stay more than 1h / 1.5h at the monastery unless you want to do some hiking in the surrounding area). Note that if you request an Uber, an official taxi using the Uber app will show up, drivers services like Uber are banned in Greece.

On the 24th, you'll find plenty of things to keep you busy before your 4:00 PM tour. It all depends on what you're interested in. If you aren't visiting historical sites or museums, you could go to the municipal market in the morning and have lunch there. Walking from Monastiraki Square, it's about a 10-minute walk on Athinas Street.

From the Hera Hotel, you can reach Anafiotika in less than 10 minutes if you enter from the east via Tripodon Street.

On the morning of May 26, you could go to Epidaurus, since hanging out in old Nafplio and exploring the fortress won't take up your whole day.

How close is the Hertz location to where the Viking ship is docked?

The cruise ship terminals at the Port of Piraeus are the gates E11 (terminal A) and E12 (terminal C). If it's the Hertz office located on Akti Miaouli Street in Piraeus, you'll be very close to Gate E11 (Gate E12 is a bit further). The Hertz staff can tell you how to get there. I have no idea how to walk through that part of the port, as it's really designed for vehicles. Including the ferry terminals, there are 4 kilometers of docks at the port of Piraeus, so don't head in the wrong direction!

I think you are planning a lot on your way to Nafplio. We stopped at the canal which is pretty cool to see. We have not still managed to get to Ancient Cornith in multiple trips to Greece (not saying not worthwhile, just haven't made it). We have been to Nemea which I would highly recommend. We went there the same day we went to Mycenae. I would consider doing that and not trying to see both Cornith and Nemea on the way.

We spent the entire morning at the Palimidi Fortress including climbing up and down.. The Bourtzi takes less time, although it is a boat ride over. There is also a nice archeological museum that we enjoyed. And there is a town beach that you might also like. We had lunch there and that got us use of chairs (it is a pebbly beach).

We spent a couple hours at Epidaurus but we had a group of seven and also went to the museum there. It really is striking and we all climbed to the top and sat quite awhile watching and listening to the people coming in. There quite a nice view from the top as well.

We went up to the Acropolis at 4 pm and I think it is a very good time. It is cooling off instead of getting hotter and not as crowded as the morning. I would check on times for the museum though and make sure you have enough time before it closes.

You might go to the Archeological museum in the morning. All the gold from Mycenae is there. It is very impressive. Now we went to Mycenae first so maybe it won't seem quite as much if you haven't seen it already.

I wouldn’t think you need a whole day for Mycenae, beautiful and interesting as it is.

On my way I’d definitely stop at Tiryns. Homer, an early reviewer, commented on its ’mighty walls’ and he had a point.

I like Argos a lot. The Archaeological Museum has recently been refurbished and is interesting. The Roman Odeon and Theatre are also worth a visit. If you are interested in history you may like this.

Finally the fort above the city - Larissa - is free entry and has amazing views. Be warned though that it is quite a steep, long and windy drive to get up there.
