Athens Hotel Recommendations

My wife and I will be staying two nights in Athens in early July, prior to taking a cruise. We've never been to Greece before and won't have a car, so we're looking for something centrally located, within walking distance to important sites, museums, etc. We are in our sixties, so we'd prefer a place that is not located on a steep hill, and is fairly quiet. We're hoping to find a nice place, preferably that includes breakfast, for $200 (175 Euros) or less per night. Does anyone have any place they'd recommend within these parameters? Thank you.

It always helps to quote your preferred budget in Euros -- many people who contribute to this forum are not US Citizens and would have to convert, and when you want help, its nice to do the conversion yourself.

September 2024 we stayed in Athens, 4 nights before our RS Tour of Greece would start. We always stay in a different hotel before tour, different area of town, lower cost, more experiences. We stayed at Athens Market Portrait.
I checked for early July - runs about $185/night. Excellent breakfast. Staff is so kind, professional and helpful.
The rooms are smaller - but it’s the location ! 5 min walk from Monastiraki Square. Many restaurants and a fantastic meat/cheese charcuterie etc eatery just block away. Miran Athens. Would definitely stay here again.

We arrived there with vacation o trips stayed in Athens before our cruise and found the Plaka/Monastiraki area perfect flat streets, easy walking to the Acropolis, museums, and plenty of cafés. Hotels there often include breakfast and are quieter than staying right on Syntagma Square. Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere felt safe and welcoming for first-time visitors. Tsisdarakis Mosque and the nearby flea market added charm without being overwhelming. For two nights, a centrally located boutique hotel in Plaka gives you both convenience and a relaxed base before boarding the ship.
