Athens hotel recommendations

Will be in Athens in October. Need recommendations for nice hotel in a safe area. Would like rooftop views of Acropolis.

On many of my stays in Athens I've stayed at the Attalos Hotel on Athinas St.

Very nice rooms, good customer service, excellent location for everything one wants to see in Athens.

Lovely rooftop bar with outstanding 360 degree views of Athens including the Acropolis.

Having said that the last few years I've stayed at Airbnbs.

The entire tourist area of Athens is perfectly safe, day or night (and honestly, most of the non-tourist areas are, too).

I know a few places to stay that are rooftop apartments with a view of the Acropolis, but they aren't hotels, they're short-term rentals like Airbnb (we've tried some of them).

On the other hand, if you're looking for a restaurant or bar with a rooftop view in a hotel or not, I’ve put together this almost exhaustive list over the years. There might be a few spots I missed, though!

We booked the Hera Hotel based on recommendations here for 3 nights this October 9-11.

We just stayed at the King George in Syntagma Square. Nice hotel. Marriott chain. You can request an Acropolis facing room. Syntagma square is relatively safe (watch the pick pockets) but you can walk around no issues. Plenty of places to eat. Go to the plaka with a 10 minute walk. Plenty of shopping also. And if you get an acropolis room you can see parliament and the guardsmen of the unknown soldier.

I would also recommend the Attalos hotel. Great location, nice rooms, and the rooftop views of the Acropolis. Much better price than some of the others mentioned.
