We stayed at the Sofitel the night before our flight back to the US. Very nice hotel, fabulous breakfast, walk to the airport, but pricey. It was worth it to us.

For our 8am flight, we also did the Sofitel. I booked it and then kept checking prices and changed the reservation a couple of times. We ended up paying under $200. It was fabulously simple to just walk over to the check in area in the morning.

We will be in Athen Airport at 4 pm (scheduled landing time) in September and the next flight to Mykonos is scheduled for next morning at 8:35 am. I booked Avra Hotel which runs a free shuttle but (20min duration) between the hotel and airport. The location of the hotel gives some opportunity to spend the evening in the Rafina area. The price difference for our date was about $130. (265 vs 135) . http://www.booking.com/Share-NqanCj

We stayed at the Sofitel, couldn't have been more convenient, but I understand there are other nearby options for less cost, including at Rafina.

The Sofitel is literally across the street from the terminal, a five-minute walk. Worth the price to me since I had to be in the terminal really, really early in the morning.

Just to mix it up, if you're on a budget - we stayed at Peri's hotel. They have free shuttle pick up and drop off and it was 100E for the family room (one queen two singles for 4 of us) for the night. It was clean and comfortable. The area is fine, nothing special but if you just need somewhere overnight for connections it fits the bill. Breakfast included and it was good. You can email them directly or they are on booking.com.
