We just got a good deal on a cruise out of Athens. I need hotel for 3 days before the cruise leaves. The hotel is for 2 people. We need an elevator and AC. Will order Rick’s book tonight but need suggestions. Would like to be close to the sites or transportation to the sites. No research yet because we just booked the cruise cruise because wife has always wanted to do it. Thanks for your help in advance
What is your price range? Less expensive hotels are in the Plaka area.
150 euros per night
We are staying at the Airotel Parthenon in Athens in May. We have never been there so I can't recommend it from first-hand experience. It was recommended to me by someone on the Fodors forum who has been to Greece about 20 times. I believe it is close to the Acropolis. The price is about $144.
I'd suggest you choose a hotel near the Acropolis and other major attractions so that you don't waste time getting around the city. The Acropolis View Hotel and the Hera Hotel are two good choices. Read this, you'll find some more good accommodation options near the Acropolis.
We stayed in the Plaka area , and it was great.
IsIt is the most picturesque area of Athens.
We prefer boutique hotels.
On our first dates in Athens, we booked Athens Was. Lovely with breathtaking views from the rooftop.
It cost around 180 euros for a big room compared to the European standards.
On the last date, we came back to Athens from Santorini. We stayed at the AVA hotel.
Both are excellent choices.
InnAthens Hotel which is near Syntagma Square.https://www.innathens.com/ Modern hotel; has an elevator and AC; meets your price point. Our stay there was very enjoyable.
We also stayed at the AthensWas Hotel and enjoyed it. It is on a quiet pedestrian street only a couple of blocks from the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. We did a morning tour of the Acropolis with Athens Walking Tours which met right next door at the Fresco Yogurt shop.
We really enjoyed Hotel Phaedra, right in the heart of the Plaka, great view of the Acropolis, easy walk to Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus. https://hotelphaedra.com/
Six years ago we had an enjoyable stay at the Attalos Hotel. Check it out at: https://www.attaloshotel.com. Close to the sites and a nice rooftop lounge.
I really liked the Hera Hotel and the lovely view of the Acropolis from their restaurant. It is just a couple of blocks from their subway as well.
Attalos has been our go to hotel for our visits to Athens. It is well situated near Monestraki Metro station and the Plaka area as well as the Athens central market. The price is right and that rooftop bar view of the Acropolis just keep calling us back.
We're staying at the Ziller's Hotel next week.
Thanks for the replies. We have booked our hotel with your help
Scott, after our work recommending, why not tell us which one you booked? Just for fun... we won't tell anyone else.
We booked the Attalid hotel. Thanks for your help
My wife and I absolutely loved the Herodian Hotel a few years ago. It's just south of the Acropolis (0.2 mi away). Also very close to the Acropolis Museum. In fact, we are possibly going back in a few days and are hoping to stay there again.
Just left Athens today. I can't say enough about The Zillers Hotel. The view of The Acropolis is stunning no matter what day. We had one from our room window and balcony. The rooftop bar is one of the top bars for cocktails in Athens with stunning views of the Acropolis and Metropolis church. The staff way beyond helpful. We had lost luggage & a rental car snafu and came to our rescue both times (one after we checked out because of a language barrier). I can't recommend the hotel enough. If you want a photo, let me know.
