Athens - Emergency Measures Ahead of Heatwave

For those who will be in Athens in the next few days, a heatwave will hit Athens with temperatures expected to reach up to 45° Celsius (113 F) on Friday 14 and Saturday 15.

As in previous years, it may be decided to close down the Acropolis and other archeological sites if necessary during peak heat

As in previous years, it may be decided to close down the Acropolis....during peak heat

If for no other reason, than evacuating someone who has collapsed would be a real pain

They did go ahead and close the Acropolis for a few hours today and may do so tomorrow too: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66202093

The heat is no joke, if you are visiting make sure to stay hydrated. I was at the Acropolis last June and it was definitely hot, but not as hot as this, and a young woman probably barely in her 20s who was part of our group blacked out momentarily due to the heat and probably a bit of dehydration and couldn't continue with the rest of the tour up to the Acropolis. Thankfully she recovered enough to descend on her own, but just shows how the heat can affect anyone and ruin your day.

A new heat wave is expected from next Thursday July 20. (up to 43°C / 110F)

If this forecast is confirmed, it is likely that the Acropolis will be closed to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Due to the heat wave, all archaeological sites will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Sunday July 23.

In addition, the guards of the Acropolis and other archaeological sites in Greece have stopped work for four hours from today due to the difficult working conditions caused by the heat wave.
This measure will be applied between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. until Sunday 23.
