Athens -Crete-Santorini

Hello travellers,
My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip tp Greece in September 1sr week. The places we have finalizing are Athens,
Crete and Santorini. What is the best mode of travel between these places. Also, please let us know if we should consider any other places.

Thank you,

Tara

You mean "instead of" or "in addition to"?

How many nights in Greece?

With only 10 days adding another destination is too many places resulting in your doing a lot of traveling and not a lot of 'being there'

Your mode of travel depends on the order of your trip. You did not say where you plan to be on Crete. We flew from Athens to Chania, had a rental car for Crete; ferry from Heraklion to Santorini. From there we went to Naxos. However we spent 3+ weeks in Greece. Check ferry schedules and compare them to flights. With only 10 days, you are going to be spending a large amount of your time traveling from place to place, Crete is very large, my suggestion would be to save it for another trip. As mentioned before, how many nights do you have in Greece?

We will have 10 nights. We are thinking of 4 days in Athens and 3 each in Santorini and Crete. Still working out details. We will first head to whatever is closet to Athens, either Santorini or Crete.

Thank you for the tips.

Regards,

Tara

Just to be sure that your arrival and departure days are not part of your 10 day count.

If they are part of it, your real stay in Greece begins on the morning of day 2 and ends on the evening of day 9
It would only be 8 full days.

We did a similar trip in 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We started with Athens then flew to Santorini. This is beautiful, but does not require a lot of days. From Santorini we took a fast hydrofoil ferry at sunset to Heraklion, Crete where we rented a car. We spent time on the southern coast and then went to Chania. From there we flew back to Athens for another day before returning home.

Crete is definitely too large to completely cover in that timeframe, but it is very pleasant and you can get a good taste. The Venetian port city of Chania is a charming town, and I agree that staying within its walls is worth it.
