Athens airport to hotel. And from hotel to Port Piraeus--cruise ship terminal-October 2025

Is it best to take a taxi to our hotel--(on Akadimias Street) from the Athens airport or the trains without getting terribly lost? This is our first time in Athens, and have been told trains can be crowded and not easy to navigate. How long should the trip take via taxi or train? Is there a big price difference?

Then from hotel (2 days later) to cruise Port Piraeus. Best option is?? Taxi or trains? Will 2 suitcases at most and maybe a carry on.) Are the rates set on taxis for destinations or can drivers make up a price? If not, is taking the train better option? How long should we plan for getting from hotel to cruise port?

Thank you so much in advance for your advice and recommendations!

Been to Athens twice now. Both times we used Welcome Pickups to meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel. They met us at the exit area with a sign with our name on it.
by booking with them online, you will know how much it is. It's probably a bit more than a taxi would charge- assuming you get a legitimate taxi that charges the fixed price.

From the hotel to the cruise port- again we used Welcome pickups to take us to the cruise port and had no issues. You will know the cost before hand. The metro doesn't go directly to the cruise gates, you would still need to walk (and wheel your bags) a distance. The ferry port is different from the cruise port. So a taxi would be best.

What you don't want to do is hail a taxi at the cruise port to take you to your hotel. Then they will quote whatever. Our Greek tour guide with RS even said they would try to overcharge her and she lives in Athens.

Thank you Derek for your recommendation, had never heard of them but looked them up. Yes, to me taxis in foreign countries can be sketchy and wanted to see what others thought/suggested.

Again, thank you for the info, very much appreciated and prices seem reasonable! Have a great weekend!

If you're looking for the easiest way, it's a taxi. A flat rate of €40 to the center of Athens (€55 from midnight to 5 a.m.)

Akadimias Street is quite long; if your hotel is located, say, between numbers 1 and 30, it's easily walkable from Syntagma Square.
Syntagma Square is precisely where you arrive by metro or bus X95 from the airport.
The X95 bus is another way to avoid getting lost and is also the cheapest (€5.50). You board the bus and it ends its journey at Syntagma Square. There are buses approximately every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. You can pay on the bus with a Visa or Mastercard credit card or buy a ticket at the ticket counter in front of the bus stops.

The taxi journey takes about 50 minutes depending on traffic, the bus takes about an hour.

To get to the cruise terminal, there's no other quick and easy way than a taxi. Allow about 25 minutes depending on traffic. As Derek mentioned, be sure to specify the cruise port, the ferry port isn't exactly in the same location.

I second Derek's recommendation: if you're not familiar with Greek taxis, which tend to overcharge tourists, pre-book a taxi with Welcome Pickups. It costs €2 or €3 more, and the driver will wait for you at the airport with a sign with your name on it (or will pick you up at your hotel to go to the port).

Also, avoid booking a taxi through your hotel, it could be even more expensive than with a taxi driver who likes to rip off tourists.
