Hello,
I've been reading online about being able to store some of our luggage that we don't need right away at the Athens Airport while we are visiting other islands for a few days. Has anyone used this service, and is it affordable?

Used it a couple of years ago. Left suitcase there when I didn't want to lug it into Athens for a two day stay. Can't remember the cost but I remember it being reasonable.

If you are staying in Athens at the beginning of your trip and then returning to the same hotel for the end of the trip you might want to ask your hotel if they will store your bags. Thats what we did on our second trip and the hotel did it for free.
It was also on that trip the we realized that the little bags we took with us for a week on an island contained everything we could possibly want and the big bags at the hotel were full of stuff that wasn't necessary. We now travel with two cabin sized bags plus two tiny backpacks for a month stay.
Also, in Central Athens there's a luggage storage business diagonally across from the main entrance to the Monastiraki Metro Station.
Thank you everybody for the great info. The rates you showed me seem very reasonable. I plan on bringing one checked bag for 5 of us to share that will be for our souvenirs and stuff we may not need to take island hopping with us. I'm hoping to stay in places that have washing machines so we don't have to pack so much. That's what we did on our 10 day vacation to California several years ago.
It's doubtful that you'll find any place with a washing machine unless you book an expensive private villa. On the islands there are no self-service laundromats but there are drop-off laundry services.
We figured that which is why we're looking at Airbnb.com. There are some nice options for us on there. If not, we'll definitely use a laundry service.

ABOUT LAUNDRY -- Cheryl, I've lost track by now of which islands you're looking at, but if you are looking at Pollonia on Milos, there are quite a number of lodgings that have several bedrooms and also provide laundry facilities in a unit or on the premises: some would include Niki Savvas, Villa Mary Elen, Villa Sosanna, Captain Stavros. Heliotropos; in your inquriy you could ask about such. On Naxos, in St. George Beach area, there IS a self-service laundromat on one of the back streets, you just have to ask your landlord about it.
