Are hiking poles recommended for the Acropylis?

My wife and I are visiting the Acropylis, Delphi, and Meteora in the next few weeks.
Are hiking poles recommended for folks in their early 70’s in good health and reasonably fit…..particularly for the Acropylis.
Our poles are collapsible but only to 25” long. That will require a medium checkable bag since EU reps do not allow hiking poles in carry ons. (Not to mention too long for our carry on bands or backpacks)
That violates our RS mantra to take everything in a one carry on and a backpack apiece…….
Thanks

There are some very rough areas that make for difficult walking on the Acropolis. There are also some paved paths. If you stick to the paths and watch your step it should be fine.

There are collapsible poles available that will fit in a 21" or 22" bag - I bought some a couple of years ago - they are quite inexpensive.

My rule of thumb is if I wonder if I might need poles, I bring them.
I haven't been to Greece yet, but I imagine the ancient sites are similar to those in Sicily. I was glad I had them there.

Don't know the length of my wife's collapsible poles but they fit a carryon which has gone about European airports. Most recently Oslo on the way home.

You actually can get by without them at the Acropolis, the site is more and more accessible, but might be handy for Delphi and the Meteora.

I would look at investing in a new set of poles. TSA is apparently easing up on regulations regarding poles, allowing them in carry-on, but you need the right tips, and some that collapse to a shorter length.

I have a set like this: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/quest-cork-folding-trekking-poles-23queucrkfldngtrkcac/23queucrkfldngtrkcac?camp=CSE:DSG_2385384643675_pla_pla-2385384643675_139387230222_18513991327&gad_campaignid=18513991327&segment=&sku=24039810 (Note, I do not have these, but similar)

They fold up to about 16", I can not exactly see the tips on these, but mine are blunt carbide, having a hole in the bottom, so they grip if need it in rock, plus you have rubber tips for normal walking.

Mine have gone through TSA, but often I have used one as a walking aid.

I can attest to helpfulness of trekking poies, and I have another option for smaller-fold brands. Amazon has sold a brand called EarthTrek, which folds down to 12" -- it's constructed as 4 tubes that "socket" together with a super-strong bungie-cord inside. The regular is adjustable from 48" - 53" .. and the "shorter" down to 50 or 48". Folded, it's about size of a short folding umbrella... easy to pack & to carry in a daybag. Cost, about $27 a couplle of years ago. Yes, you'd have to check one bag... but worth it. (esp since going to delphi & meteora also). I've lent mine to many traveling friends who've also praised their functioning.

I am a recent convert to trekking poles for hiking (life-changing!), but I have doubts about how helpful they would be at the Acropolis. I would think they would slip off the many slippery-smooth surfaces, but I could be wrong. I would imagine rubber tips are mandatory, as no one wants to chip rocks at an ancient site. I would worry about them slipping more than them keeping me upright.
I am not willing to check a bag to take mine, but I plan to rent some (or buy cheap ones) on my next trip.

Most of them come with rubber tips -- EarthTrek does, and they do NOT slip on the Acropolis Steps. As for renting any IN Greece, lots o luck. If you need them, and can afford the RT plane fare to Greece, another $27 is not going to break the bank.

Well on our way to Greece without our trekking poles.
Why?
We try to travel light which means backpacks, carryons, and a single carry on sized rolling duffle bag we check.
Poles do not have to be checked USA to EU BUT they need to be checked UK/EU to USA…..and we were unsuccessful in finding places to easily purchase them in Athens.
Standard 25” collapsible poles don’t fit in our 21” rolling duffle and we didn’t want to increase to our larger 30” quad roller bag.
I did find the newer poles that break down to 19” length but what was available did not come with storage bag and I didn’t have time to improvise.
For the future, I will research on Amazon and get poles that fit and come with a shoulder strap bag……and I will be prepared!

Wayne came to Travel forum a liltle too late to get usablae information ... he keeps talking about 19" fold-down when I listed those with 12" foldability... no need for shoulderbags, easily caarried in small daybag or small backpack.

We aren't hikers ordinarily, but both collapsible poles for our three weeks in Switzerland last year.

They were wonderful there, so my husband bought one pair, in our checked luggage, for this year's trip to Greece.

We did use them for the Acropolis and it made a great difference for me getting you was a quite steep path.

We are only inn our mid v sixties and both were happy to have one each.
