Antiparos

We are planning a short stay on Paros and are contemplating a day visit over to antiparos when we are there in September. We won’t have a car though. We’re a bit older (pushing 70). Are scooters a good option or fairly dangerous? Are there taxis or busses? The only “tours” we’ve seen are ones included in a paros and antiparos tour and you’re only on antiparos for 1.5 hours! Please share other options for travelers without a car! Thanks!!!

To get to Antiparos from Paros there is a boat connection from Parikia or you can take a bus that goes to Punta (a bus approximately every hour), the port from where the boat leaves to go to Antiparos.

From Punta you will have a crossing approximately every hour, the pedestrian ticket costs 2 euros, it can be bought directly on the boat. The crossing takes about 20 minutes (it's longer from Parikia). Once in Antiparos it's up to you what you want to do but it is not essential to rent a car or a scooter. You can spend a few hours walking around. Beaches near the port are also easily accessible.

It's a shame not to stay long on Paros/Antiparos. These islands deserve much more than 2 or 3 days

The shuttle boats from Paros both land in Antiparos' main village where you can enjoy exploring on foot without a car or scooter. The outlying areas away from that village are mostly residential and probably wouldn't be of much interest to you.

Near the port on Antiparos is a travel agency that sells bus tickets to the Cave of Antiparos, which has spectacular formations of stalagmites and stalactites. The cave goes 100 meters deep and has 400 steps, if you feel up to that. There’s a large stalagmite right at the entrance, and a small 18th century chapel nearby. It’s an interesting little outing.

Other than that, you can just wander the little town. Right in the center of town is a castle, or Kastro, built in 1440, which you can explore.

If you had an extra day, I’d highly recommend a full-day boat trip around Antiparos called “Lazy Day with Captain Ben”. You can get on the boat in either Paros or Antiparos. Check it out online.
