Airport Hotels?

Are there any hotels near the airport in Athens (AIA)? I have an early morning flight and would rather stay a little closer than Athens center the night before.

If by AIA airport you mean Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos", (IATA code ATH) just perform a simple Internet search.

For anyone else who might want this same information the closest hotel to ATH is the Sofitel, which is literally a 5-minute walk across the street from the departures hall. It's expensive. Nearby are the St. Thomas B&B, Peri's Hotel and the Pantheon Hotel. All 3 of these will arrange transfers for you.

The Sofitel is the only hotel near the Athens airport. It is literally a 2 minute walk across the street (another poster said 5 minutes, but it really is closer). Our flight arrived from Santorini at 9:30 at night and our flight to the US was at 11am. We didn't want to mess with cabs or such, knowing we really needed a good nights sleep after 3 weeks of non-stop travel. The Sofitel was a little more than other accommodations in Greece, but it was worth it. It is a beautiful hotel (where you can actually flush t.p.). We didn't hear the planes at night. Really, it's worth it.

Sofitel is ON the airport, and my favorite overnight for early morning flights. Also nearby is a Holiday Inn, a little cheaper than Sofitel, but that would require a transfer. The ones mentioned by Lee would all be good budget choices.

We have stayed at the Sofitel, and it is fine albeit expensive, with overpriced meals.

So we prefer the St. Thomas B&B. They offer an airport pickup (they met us inside the airport, just past the arrival gate, by the pharmacy). Short walk to the car, then short drive to the B&B. You can hardly get easier than that! The pickup availability might depend upon what time of day you are arriving.

The B&B has a nice pool area in back. You can walk a few steps down the street to a good taverna (closed Mondays) or you can order inexpensive but delicious takeout and eat it by the pool with a glass of wine or beer. The rooms are very comfortable, the owners are lovely people and respond very quickly to inquiries, which I appreciated.

Depending on your flight times, again, they may be able to transport you to the airport in the morning or arrange for a taxi. Highly recommended. A nice way to decompress from a busy trip before your flight home.

I agree with Charlene about the St Thomas.

For the sake of completeness it's worth mentioning there's also a Holiday Inn about ten minutes from the airport. I've never stayed there but the airport bus passes it. Reviews on their site say there's a free hourly shuttle.

I can highly recommend the Holiday Inn near the airport. Beautiful hotel, good restaurant and a very convenient free shuttle to the airport. Reasonably priced, too.

Anyone concerned about the price of meals in Sofitel can easily walk across to the terminal for a choice of several restaurants there. It's also worth noting you can get free wifi in the terminal, while you pay for it at Sofitel.
