Nice sale but can't really book anything until I can get much lower prices from the US (Boston) to Athens for late Sept/early Oct.

Right now prices are way too high and far higher than last year.

I'm hoping they will come down to at least something more reasonable.

tommy's lament reflects the fact that Olympic does not do transatlantic flights ... so folks from the New World must either get to Athens or to another European airport to take advantage of these saving. The headline may raise false hopes to anyone from the Americas going to Europe for First time.

It does give me memories of JFK - ATH flights back when Olympic was Greece's Natl Airline. Sometimes there would be large groups of chatty Greek-speaking older Americans filling several rows in front of economy section .. Young flight attendiants hovered solicitously over these ya-yas (grandmas), refilling cofffee cups. Also recall as a newbie, my first encounter with menu item of chilled octopus salad (which I swapped with a Greek seatmate in return for his dessert). Those were the days, my frends,, we thought they'd never end....

I'm sorry for you Tommy and Janet, but also know that Aegean (or other airlines) only flies to European capitals all year round. Other major European cities are only served approximately from mid-May to mid-October.

For example, I still have to wait at least 5 months before I can go to Athens for lunch and return home for dinner :))

I believe the Aegean sale includes domestic flights so that helps if one wants to fly to an island from Athens.

By now I usually have my tickets bought for a flight from Boston to Athens.

Last year I had to wait until the middle of March to get a ticket I felt was reasonable and it was. $980 (896 euros) for non-stop from Boston to Athens which was wonderful for non-stop.

This year prices are as high as I've ever seen for the same flight.

I'm hoping they come down to something I am willing to pay as the older I get the less time I have left to go to Greece.

Tommy, tickets havent got that low from Philadelphia/USAir in Years -- on my last ttrip, I watchdogged for months, and only got something like $1300 ... and in 2023 several other luckless locals I advised did no better.

Tommy, Delta is currently offering BOS→ATH flights at the end of September for $1003 (€919)

I check with google flight and Delta on a daily basis.

Flights mentioned above are for a basic ticket with no checked luggage and no seat selection.

In addition they have one connecting flight.

Also some of the airlines offering lower prices tend to have super long connecting times or terrible departure/arrival times.

The last two years I flew with Delta non-stop and realized how much more convenient and stress free it was than having to fly to one location, get off a plane, wait maybe several hours, get on board another plane, take off and land again. What is already a long day/flight becomes even more so when you have a connecting flight to deal with.

I am willing to pay more for a non-stop but not hundreds of dollars/euros more.

I check daily and will wait and hope prices come down to something I feel I can manage.

It is still 8-9 months before I usually leave for Greece.

Can anyone comment on the predictability and ease of flying Aegean from EWR ( Newark) to Athens?
I am not familiar with that airport and I looked it up and apparently it’s ranked very low for on-time, etc.
I am looking for flights in October and the prices are a good bit cheaper than Delta, or United and while I will have to get to Newark from Baltimore, it’s probably not that much more difficult than going to Dulles.
Would love quick comments so we can get the sale if this isn’t a bad decision…
Thanks!

Small clarification, Aegean does not operate EWR→ATH flights.

The ones you will see are codeshare flights with United or Emirates or other Star Allliance member companies.
