Hi JoLui,

We were sent an email by Aegean Air RE this offer. I checked the fares against the Black Friday fares we booked to Crete back in November and the Black Friday deal is still better, even with the probability of having to pay for a checked bag due to their weight restriction of 8kg for a carry on. Do you know how strict Aegean is on size of personal carry on items, i.e. backpacks? We're on an airbus 320 but the measurement they list on their website seem small for a backpack.

I can't say how strict the cabin baggage weight and size controls are, we always take ComfortFlex tickets with checked baggage even if we are far from reaching the 23kg limit. And we only take small soft backpacks in the cabin.

Usually traditional airlines like Aegean are less strict than low cost airlines that make a profit on all extras, including baggage.

I guess other forum members traveling with cabin baggage only could give you reliable information on this subject.

The storage area is not that big on the planes I have been on. We buy the fares Joi Lui does and have always checked, even though carry on the rest of the time. A standard carry on won't work.

kcdav, in your inquiry it's important to say if youre doing a domestic flight (Not from outside Greece) and if it's a flight to.from Athens to an island. This is because several islands can only do small planes -- in some they need to used turboprop not jets ... and for those flights there is No ovcerhead bag storage, and very limited under-seat. So yes, on those they are very strict, not just on weight but on size ... You could not carry a large box of feathers! Comfort-flex is the secure choice.

Oh, pardon, i overlooked your mention of Airbus. However, an onward flight to Naxos, Paros or Milos might be different.

I don't see where a systematic control of cabin baggage weight could be done. When you enter Athens airport and fly with a cabin baggage only , with your boarding pass you go directly to security checks then to your boarding gate until boarding.

It's even easier when you have an intra Schengen connection, there is only one staircase to take then 20 meters of corridor to be in the boarding hall of the 2nd flight. No control either.

On the other hand you should especially pay attention to the maximum dimensions authorized, your cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead compartment.
