I stayed at the Acropolis View Hotel and was very pleased. I had heard about it on this forum. When I first approached the hotel the facade looked a little worse for wear and I thought, "what have I gotten myself into?" Then I entered this completely renovated and modern hotel with the friendliest desk crew you could imagine. I went up to my room and looked out the window and there was the Acropolis! My room was clean, modern, and what a view. Breakfast was excellent and held up on a rooftop terrace with a view of the Acropolis as well.

The location was great. Two blocks and you are at the entrance to the Acropolis. 5 minutes down a pedestrian only street and you are at the Acropolis Museum and the Metro Stop. Many restaurants available here. A grocery was just a few blocks away and I was able to walk to many to the ancient sites in the area.

The front desk went out of their way to orient guest to the neighborhood, call taxis, and basically help in any way that they could.

I would happily stay at this hotel again.

We stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel in May. I would not recommend it. We had an issue with construction in the room above us at 10pm and the hotel staff were initially unhelpful. The rooms were small and the breakfast was so so. There must be better choices in Athens.

I totally agree with Carol, both from standpoint of value & location. Acropolis View is a venerable lodging, which finally upgraded but is still very affordable, and is in the pedestrianized, no-cars, low-rise section of Plaka, thus quieter at night while being nearby cafes, sights, museums etc. Inn Athens appears on maps to be right ON Syntagma Square with constant 24-hour traffic ... and higher rates than above. Athens Gate is a "modern" high-rise hotel, across from 2 landmarks, Hadrians arch & Temple of Zeus; it is directly on a 6-lane highway with traffic streaming 24/7. Vital to book rooms at back for quiet nights.. again, higher rates, a bland "international-anyplace" decor & ambience.

I don’t have any experience with the hotels themselves, but I go to and stay in Athens pretty often. In my opinion, the Acropolis View is better strictly from a location standpoint.

Even though the Inn Hotel isn't exactly 'right ON' Syntagma Square, it's on a one-way street just a few yards from the traffic light at the intersection with the busy Syggrou Avenue. Based on my experience, I’d recommend avoiding that kind of street.

Still on the topic of location, I strongly advise against the Athens Gate Hotel. That one is right on Syggrou Avenue, where traffic is absolute hell day and night. (It’s actually just a few yards from the car rental place I usually do business with.)

We recently had a wonderful stay — family of eleven, six rooms — at Niche Hotel Athens. The rooms were all attractive, comfortable, clean and quiet despite being at a very busy street corner. Niche staff were unfailingly welcoming, kind, attentive and helpful. Luggage storage was happily provided as were umbrellas when needed. The pillow menu is a welcome plus for fussy pillow people. The rooftop bar/restaurant has a fabulous view of the Acropolis. Breakfast, on the rooftop, had so many hot and cold choices, all good, that it was difficult to choose. Location is convenient — especially to the Acropolis Museum, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch and the wonderful Mani Mani Restaurant. Highly recommend.
