Acropolis Timed Entry on First Sundays/April 18/May 18

Was hoping someone could shed some light on how these days are handled at the Acropolis and other sites that require timed entry

Looking at HHTicket dot gr, I’m receiving an error message when I try to pull up booking slots for March 2, iirc the next free admission day on the calendar, and so I wanted to confirm that if I’m in Athens on April 18 or May 18 I won’t have to book myself a timed entry to the Acropolis (or if not in Athens at any other site covered by those two free admissions days). Obviously 4/18 is Orthodox Good Friday so the admission window is truncated, but it would save quite a bit not to have to buy tickets for at least one day of a fairly short (long weekend) trip to Athens. I also assume I can’t book April tickets for another two weeks and May tickets until April 1.

I did not understand why you want to buy tickets on days when entry is free. Which is the case every first Sunday of the month from November to March.

Tickets cannot be purchased from April 1st because there will be a change in pricing (switching to summer pricing)

It will not be possible on April 18th either, not because of Easter but because April 18th is World Heritage Day. Entry is also free on that day.

Whatever the date, there is no point in trying to book a ticket for the Acropolis so far in advance.

I don’t think I was clear enough so I’ll rephrase.

I’m aware all of these days are free admission. I’m not asking if I need a paid ticket, I’m asking if I still need to book some form of timed entry slots to sites like the Acropolis that are free on First Sundays/April 18/May 18.

Alternatively, can I just show up to, eg, the Acropolis when it opens on, say, Good Friday (which iirc is 12pm) without booking a timed entry beforehand?

If so, how early before the opening do I need to show up at the site to join the line to get in? Are we talking 730am on May 18/1030am on April 18?

No, there is no form to book a time slot on free days. You just have to go to the ticket office at the entrance to the site

Only the Acropolis has this time slot system in order to limit entries to a maximum of 20,000 visitors per day.
Given that free days are the most crowded days, it is obvious that the earlier you go, the better.

To date, the specific opening hours during the Easter weekend have not been announced.
As an indication, in 2024 on Good Friday the Acropolis was open from 12:00 to 17:30 (last entry at 17:00)
