Accommodation in the Cyclades Islands.

An article published in the Greek press lists the number of accommodations (per bed) available in some Cycladic islands at the start of 2024:

  • Keas + Kythnos (total population 4000)

Hotel beds: 817 - Short term rental beds: 5900.

  • Milos (population 5000)

Hotel beds: 1787 - Short term rental beds: 8500.

  • Andros (population 1500):

Hotel beds: 1300 - Short term rental beds: 5200.

  • Paros (population 15,000):

Hotel beds: 7200 - Short term rental beds: 17500.

  • Syros (population 20,000):

Hotel beds: 2580 - Short term rental beds: 5500.

  • Tinos (population 5200):

Hotel beds: 2267 - Short term rental beds: 7000.

  • Naxos and small Cyclades (population 18,000):

Hotel beds: 8000 - Short term rental beds: 11800.

  • Mykonos (population 10,000):

Hotel beds: 16500 - Short term rental beds: 22000.

  • Santorini (population 15,000):

Hotel beds: 17,360 - Short term rental beds: 11000.

I thought this was interesting, especially the differences between hotel beds and short term rentals on some of the islands. I understand that long before the internet there was a tradition of renting rooms to tourists on the islands.

I was curious though what the Greek Press made of these numbers? Too many beds? Too many no hotel beds?
