Mary & I went on a Viking Cruise which ended in Athens. We have used Rick's tourbooks for a couple of decades and we were well informed about Athens. But I never thought of finding a restaurant since we had little time to explore Athens on our own. But it turned out we did have some time to find a place for dinner when we did have some time after a Viking tour. And somehow we just happened to get to one of Rick's recommended restaurants as we circled the Acropolis: Xenios Zeus. A server noticed Rick's tourbook on our table and told us we would get a bottle of ouzo to take home. We will enjoy it. Excellent Greek cuisine and a nice view from the terrace. The owner spoke fondly of his meeting with Rick.
So glad that worked out for the two of you. I'm just starting to research the Athens portion of our spring 2025 Greece trip now. Sounds like I should look into that restaurant!
I went to Xenios Zeus many years ago and had a outside table with a view of Plaka and beyond.
Wonderful meal, great service and the price at the time was well within my economical budget.
You lucked out with the bottle of Ouzo. I guess taking along Rick's book really helped!
