Hi, I'm going to Athens for 7 nights in late November. My first time in Greece. I realize how short the time is. Which do you recommend:
A. Do one or two day trips to islands?
B. Stay overnight on an island?
Thank you!

Question -- why Greece in November??? cold & rainy... is it for business, or chance to get free trip along w partner on business? Otherwise can't imagine why spending $$ and time to come from US at worst time of year. I do not recommend going to islands -- at least in Athens lots will be going on - museums galore, lots of events culture-wise & plenty of restaurants & night-life. If you have cultural/intellectual/historic interests u can share, we can make suggestions.
FOr 2-night trip outside Athens, I suggest a getaway to NAFPLIO< considered THE most beautiful Old TOwn in Greece ... oon a peninsula in the peloponnese, surrounded by the sea, so can feel like an island ... lovely seafront promenade with canopied cafes for viewing sunset comfortably.. this superb noncommercial website -- http://www.visitnafplio.com/ -- tells you everything about whole area, plus where to stay what to do - click every link. Here's a video of Nafplio off-season - https://vimeo.com/9186703 and here are superb pix in june by photo ace "stanbr," a top contributor -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/stanbr54/sets/72157632094108982/
You do not need car to go -- just taxi to Kifissou Bus TErminal and take modern intercity KTEL bus (reserved upholstered seats) trip is about 2.5 hours on modern highway most of way, w seaview on left side. about 4 departures per day... you can stay overnight ata Hotel Agememnon, best location, right on seafront.
Oh no! I've seen your posts on here, Janet, so I trust your advice. I haven't booked any reservations yet. I have some time off over the holidays, and Athens seems like a great place for a solo traveler. I figured it would be warmer there than it will be here, and I'm used to Scottish weather, but I see your point about traveling in warmer weather when the area looks its best. Thanks for your reply!
I just got back from Athens- spent 9 days end of April- perfect weather- a few very warm days, but the evenings were delicious at twilight strolling the promenade under the Acropolis- one of the best memories- wouldn’t be the same in the cold rain. :)
