7 day trip recommendations

Hello, my husband and I are traveling to Greece for our 20th anniversary. I have always wanted to go to the islands, but due to scheduling limitations we will be going in the shoulder season from March 27- April 3, which eliminates the whole beach and ocean swimming factor.

Doing some research I put together a rough idea of what I thought we could do, mostly staying on the mainland. Arrive on the 27th, stay 2 nights in Athens (King George Hotel), then head to Peloponnese and stay near Nafplio (Opora Country Living) for 3 nights, then head to Astir beach (Four Seasons) for 2 nights before flying home on the 3rd.

Honestly, I’m just kind of guessing here. We love history and we love good food, but we also don’t want this to be a running running running type of trip. We want to balance relaxation & luxury with really amazing history and food. So I’m just trying to figure out if we can see several good sites without it feeling too overwhelming and get a good taste of Greece with this itinerary. I would love any and all thoughts. Even if it means cutting out a hotel stay and staying longer in one spot vs. another.

Thank you so much in advance!

P.S. would love to hear if you have any strong feelings on any of those three hotels, good or bad.

Though the King George Hotel in Athens may be fine, it is on Syntagma Square which has a lot of traffic and can be noisy.

We preferred to be in a quieter area. We really liked the AthensWas Design Hotel on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street which was a shady pedestrian street in Makrigianni. It is only 2 blocks from the Acropolis and 1 block from the New Acropolis Museum. We had a suite with a balcony. It is also near the Plaka area which was fun to explore. The Akropoli Metro is convenient.

There are several other good hotels like the Ava Hotel which are in a quieter area.

You will love the history in Athens!

Although I am not a fan of Nafplio, why not stay in Nafplio? I think that the stay at Opora Country Living (if it is indeed the one in Pirgiotika) without judging the accommodation itself is not the most interesting from a logistical point of view since it is located in the middle of nowhere at least 10km from Nafplio. But perhaps you prefer to be away from all amenities, entertainment, restaurants, services, shops, etc.

Still without judging the establishment itself, the Four Seasons at Astir Beach, like many hotels in Vouliagmeni and this part of the coast, are international all-inclusive hotels primarily designed for summer seaside holidays, with restaurants, beaches, sunbeds, swimming pools, tennis courts, etc. You can find these large concrete structures just about everywhere and in every country along the Mediterranean coast. It has no typical Greek character, and at the end of March/beginning of April, I'm afraid it will be incredibly boring unless you want to do absolutely nothing but relax in the hotel and watch the sea from your room.

You could skip this place and these 2 nights and reallocate them to Nafplio and/or Athens.
