60 minute transfer in Athens airport enough?

Hello,

I am arriving into Athens (from Rhodes) and connecting to a flight to Naples (Italy) with a 1 hour connection time. No checked luggage, EU passport. Same airline for both flights. My question is - do I need to go through security in Athens when connecting between two EU flights? I know Athens airport isn't very big and I can make it from one gate to another, but if I have to go through security lines that changes the situation! Also, if someone has experience with these smaller flights in Greece, do they usually land far away and then bus the passengers to the terminal (as that too, would eat up time)? Thanks!

That is tight . It is it on one ticket? If the airline sold it to you as such then they are responsible to get you on that flight ( or the next one). The problem with an hour connection is it leaves you NO time for possible delays out of Rhodes. Personally I wouldn't risk it but I don't like " risks" when traveling so we always pad our connections.

Yes, it's one ticket from the airline website, so looks like they allow the short transfer. And they seem to have another codeshare flight to Naples 2 hours later, so I'm hoping I would just get bumped to that if needed.

Unless they have some special measures in place, (EU countries can still impose border security measures) there should be no security between the two flights. Schengen to Schengen countries is like a Domestic flight in the US. An added security check is unlikely.

I assume your flights will be with Aegean.

If this is the case, they know perfectly how to manage 60 minute connections (even 45 minutes) which they make every day.
Athens airport is not that big. Since you will be transiting between two intra-Schengen zones, you will only stay in zone B of the airport.
If necessary you will see staff with a blue vest with the sign "Connection Ambassador" who will help you reach the gate faster.
