30th Wedding Anniversary in September - which island first?

30th Wedding Anniversary - which island first?

I've looked at several options - trying to narrow it down.

We'll be flying from US in mid-september to celebrate our 30th. Greece could be our first stop (depends on available flight bookings using miles) on a 5-6 week trip including Croatia and Italy. Plan on about 10-12 days in Greece. We are a very active couple in our 50's seeking a beautiful un-crowded place for anniversary - kayaking, hiking, biking, wine tasting, dancing (pop charts, rock, country), beach bumming.

We want to start by flying into Athens and going directly to an island to catch up on sleep and celebrate our anniversary which will be within a few days of arriving. best island for this? best hotel with incredible views without the $$$$$ price tag? best anniversary dinner location? best place to take in sunset?

thoughts on this itinerary?

day 1 leave US for Athens

day 2 arrive late pm in athens, find inexpensive/clean hotel near airport

day 3 fly athens to either santorini or milos first?

day 4 1st island

day 5 1st island

day 6 fly/ferry to 2nd island

day 7 2nd island

day 8 2nd island

day 9* fly/ferry back to Athens

day 10* rent car, visit Delphi, back to Athens late PM

day 11* Athens

day 12 Fly Athens to Dubrovnik

Days 9-11 options*

option 1 - ferry to athens, rent car, drive to Delphi, overnight. next day tour delphi early am before crowds, drive back to athens. next day athens - is one full day enough time?

option 2 - ferry to athens, 1/2 day in athens, overnight in athens. next day rent car, drive to delphi for day trip, back to athens. next day athens. this option gives us 1 1/2 days in athens.

Thanks for any input!!!

FYI-flying between islands will not be an option unless you fly back to Athens first for a connecting flight onward.

Depending on how late you arrive in Athens that first night it might be a better idea to fly out to your first island then and there. It's so much nicer to wake up your first morning on an island than have to spend part of your first day getting there the next morning. That said, the St. Thomas B&B, Peri's Hotel and the Pantheon Hotel are closest to the airport and may provide shuttle services or at least order you a taxi.

Thanks Lee. WE're actually neighbors-I'm in Newbury Park!
Unfortunately, the best flight using miles puts us into Athens at 10:30 at night :(. haven't booked yet, but may not have a choice unless they open up more flights.
