i've been trying to find a 1 or 2 bedroom house - all i can find are luixury vacation rentals. can anyone steer me toward a source for more reasonably priced options? thanks so much.

Try a google search for Hydra real estate offices. Some will have rental properties listed although, as you're finding, most are vacation rentals. It won't hurt to contact them to ask. I did manage to find this one: http://www.tinyurl.com/ngh6lgv
Your best chance to find a 3-month rental will be to ask around in the shops, restaurants and travel offices once you're there. They do exist but almost always go by word of mouth. Offering to pay all 3 months up front in advance will help but for this you'll need to be sure of your intention to stay. Also be sure water and electricity bills are included, especially if you want A/C.

Hydra sounds like a nice, quite place to write your novel or memoirs for three months. I assume you'll get out just in time to avoid any Schengen visa issues. Hope you enjoy becoming a local!
