3 Greek Islands

I will be going October of 2026. Would like to go to 3 islands. Crete, Naxos and one other. Any suggestions? Milos, Serifos. Not real interested in Santorini.

How long do you have? We spent 11 nights on Crete and 4 on Naxos and could have spent more time on both.

But how about Amorgos if you really want a third? I actually have not been there but have read about people visiting from Naxos. Their reports suggest it would be wonderful.

Milos and Serifos are much further.

It's very important to let us know how many days you'll have to spend in Greece.

Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands and you could spend weeks there and not see it all.

Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades and you could spend a week there.

The smaller the island the less time needed but it all depends on your interests and what you are looking for.

I agree — you could easily spend weeks on Crete. We have done that a couple of times. But if you really want to see three islands on this trip, Amorgos is a great suggestion. It’s a short ferry ride from Naxos, and a completely different feeling. If you go, there are two ferry ports — we stayed at Katapola, at a lovely very inexpensive little hotel called Porto Katapola. We had a huge balcony overlooking the port. We walked & took buses — no car, although it may have been useful. A highlight was the spectacular Hozoviotissa Monastery carved out of the cliff side.

Thank you everyone. We only have 2 weeks. I really would like to do 3 islands as I feel I won’t get back. My list of places to see is too long. I was thinking 5 in Crete, I know it’s large, 5 in Naxos and 3 in another. But maybe we should just do 7 in Crete. Just wanted to experience another island. Is Sifnos possible? Also what direction and means of transport would you use? Thank you.

It depends what you want. I will tell you that it is more time consuming that you are probably thinking to move from one island to another. Also, the islands, especially Crete, are not homogeneous.

For example, while on Crete we visited both Chania and the southwest of Crete. They are very different. Chania was once ruled by Venice and it has a Venetian look. The southwest of Crete was not. It is very mountainous and parts of it are only reached by ferry.

Are you planning any time in Athens?
Every island hop eats up about half a day so 2 hops rather than 3, gives you essentially the equivalent of a full day to either Crete or Naxos.
On our last trip we did Crete for a month so you can easily spend your whole trip there.
