I would appreciate recommendations for a 3 or 4 day cruise (not a ferry, unless there are comfortable overnight "ferries") of Greek islands leaving and returning from Athens. Travel dates will be Sept. 30 - Oct. 6. Looking for options that are modestly priced for 2. Thanks for comments and suggestions.
I took Celestial cruises in spring, altho it was part of a guided land, cruise package. U can just do cruise part. We enjoyed Mykonos, Patmos, Santorini, Kusadasi & Crete as daytrips. Food was good etc. i recommend for well priced smaller ship approx 1500 max.
Cruises really don't offer a whole lot of time seeing and/or enjoying where you stop. You'll spend a few hours at one location, then move on to another for a few hours, and keep repeating the cycle.
You won't get to know much about where you are, what you are seeing, and get an appreciation of the country, culture and people.
I would recommend a stay in Athens, then pick one island that suits your needs and enjoy it rather than hop-scotching from one port to another and that's exactly what you'll see . . . a port or nearby area then return to the ship and off to the next port.
Athens deserves several days and any island also.
However, do what's best for you. But to fully experience a country deserves several days at each location.
A "drive-by" cruise really doesn't give you an opportunity to appreciate where you are.
