2days in Athens

We have 2 full days in Athens very soon and I have a question.
We arrive the first day at 7am and we most likely will not be able to check in to our apt near Plaka until the afternoon. We have a 3 hour food tour booked for the afternoon and a walking tour of the city and the acropolis the following morning.
My question relates to what we should do the first morning (and yes we will be tired).
I was thinking we might go to the acropolis museum, since we are going to the acropolis the next day. Another option would be to walk around other neighborhoods.
I would appreciate any advice on how to maximize our 2 days. Is the Acropolis museum worth while on the first morning. Is the food tour a good idea. Is it worthwhile exploring the neighborhoods?
Thanks so much.

If you only have two days I would place the National Archeological Museum (which has all the best stuff from everywhere in Greece) at the top of my list of places to go/things to do.

All these food and walking tours are designed for visitors who don't want to or don't have the time to spend even two or three hours of research in advance using travel guides or the internet. However, a little research would allows you to know what you can do for a few hours while waiting to check into your hotel.

So, since you're here...

Landing at 7:00 a.m., you'll be able to drop off your luggage at the hotel around 9:00 a.m. What I would do is not rush into visiting sites and museums. Find a cafe or bakery and have breakfast. Since you'll be in Plaka, you can find them almost everywhere.

For example, on Mnisikleous Street.

It's conveniently located right by the Acropolis and the quaint neighborhood of Anafiotika.

Your next stop/visit will depend on how much time you have before your food tour begins.
Personally, I would skip the National Archaeological Museum on your first morning after a long flight. It’s quite a distance from the center of Athens and is an huge museum that requires a good 2 to 3 hours to really explore. Plus, your food tour won’t be starting from that area.

The Acropolis Museum is definitely a much better choice!
