25 hours in Athens

A Friday in early October 2027, we will be leaving a Viking ship in Piraeus at about 8 AM for a one night stay in Athens. Then going directly to Athens airport Saturday for a 10AM check-in. Where to stay, what to see?

Never seen Athens. This forum suggests using Welcome Pickups to get to the pension/small hotel to drop bags and onward to the airport Saturday. For orientation, would a ~2 hour narrated driving tour of Athens be a good way to start off? Which bus/car tour? The only givens were to see the Acropolis and walk the Plaka. What other sights or districts to experience by foot? An undiscovered Taverna for dinner?

The stay: safe, modest price, private bath, where we could walk out the door and enjoy the neighborhood streets.
Thanks, Ted

Welcome Pickups is a good choice for transportation. I would not recommend a narrated driving tour of Athens - when we were there the traffic was heavy and you cannot see much from the car. Instead I would recommend one of the tours from Athens Walks where you can see the Acropolis or do a walking tour with them. They offer several types of tours.
