20yr Anniversary Trip

Hey,
We are thinking of heading to Greece for our 20yr anniversary in October. I’ve come up with a game plan but wanted some input from you all, since everyone has been helpful on our previous trips. I’m 50/50
On Santorini vs just staying in Naxos for a few extra days. We always wanted to see the Blue domes and feel like we might be missing out. Is the Hike from Fira to Oia open with recent events? But we also spent 5 days in Positano and a day trip to Capri and felt like we spent too much time there also as we like to be on the go instead of lounging at the beach. So I feel like I’ve got a happy medium. Also in Athens is there anything we should add or a specific neighborhood to check out in addition. Let me know your thoughts and opinions. Thanks

10/6: Fly to Greece

10/7: Arrive in Athens: Check in and explore Plaka Neighborhood and wonder around

This looks good for your first trip to Greece. Next time you won’t want to return to Santorini and can explore more islands such as Paros and Crete.

My only suggestion is that you consider staying in Firostefani with a view of the caldera vs. staying in Oia. On our trip to Santorini, Oia was an absolute madhouse.

I would urge you to keep all of your Athens nights for the very end of your trip.

The reason is that it's basically an hour each way from the airport to the Plaka. You could land in ATH, get directly into a car (they are right outside the door of the terminal), visit Delphi, then drive back to the airport, return car, fly to Santorini.

From there I would ferry to Naxos and then ferry to Piraeus, visit Athens, get a ride to the airport and fly home. This will save you two hour-long trips and while the Naxos-Piraeus ferry is longish, so is going to the airport there, waiting, and then getting into Athens city center.

From there you would just need a ride to the airport on departure day.

There are blue domes and whitewashed houses on all the Cyclades islands, as much on Naxos as on Santorini (but without the crazy Instagrammers of Santorini). There are also splendid sunsets on Naxos; no need to be in the middle of a crowd of 500 people taking the same photo at the same time.
That said, in just two days you won't have time to see much of Naxos.

Regarding the hike to Mount Zas, there are two trails, a short one and a long one. To reach the beginning of the short one, you have to drive along a dirt road to Aria Springs; the long one is more "accessible" from Filoti.

Whichever one you take, leave early in the morning.

If you visit the villages up to Apeiranthos, continue to the fishing village of Apollonas, in the far north of Naxos.

Just in case you'd like to stay a little longer in Naxos:
