My wife and I are going on the Best of Greece Tour in May 2026. We have a couple of days to fill before the tour. We have been looking at things to do. We have thoughts of going to Crete or find trips we can do in Greece that will not be on the tour. I would appreciate any ideas.

With only 2 days pre-tour, I would stay in Athens and visit sites that the tour doesn't visit- which is a lot.
The RS tour only visits the Acropolis, the Acropolis museum and the national archaeological museum.
That leave a lot to see- but you have to decide what you want to do. Food tour? Lycabettus Hill? Monastiraki? the roman forum?
I'd also consider a day trip out to Cape Sunion.

With just a couple of days just stay in Athens. That's what we did. Derek mentions what's covered on the tour so there's lots of other things to see and do. I recommend doing a food tour and seeing the Changing of the Guards. I actually wish i had more time at the National Archeological Museum and the Acropolis museum. The tour only spends a couple of hours in each. The archeological museum is at the end of the trip and it really neatly ties up what you saw on the tour. I was also exhausted at that point because it's a very active tour so I will definitely revisit if I ever return to Athens.
