Hello
My wife and I will be finishing a 2 week Turkey experience in Bodrum in September. We have an idea to head to Rhodes on the ferry as it is so convenient, and start our Greece trip there.
A little about us.....We love to walk and explore the historical sights, as well as enjoy affordable good authentic food and lodging. We are more the stay active and explore than lay on the beach.....however a few hours here and there on the beach are not out of the question.
We first thought about Crete however thought it may deserve a trip of its own, as this is our first time to Greece and we wanted a good variety.
We thought Rhodes, Santorini, and Athens for 4 nights each......Thoughts?
We are looking at Airbnbs in more local areas than the high traffic hotels.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Santorini is worth two nights at most. Look at Naxos or Paros instead.
Or Napflion on Peloponnesean Peninsula
I have booked Rhodes for 5 nights to get 4 full days, and then cut Santorini to 3 nights to get 2 full days
A few years ago we spent 3 nights on Santorini and could have used another. Four nights in central Athens will be good. Hoping to visit Rhodes and Crete someday.
This comes up in our planning all the time. These days I have found that my answer to your itinerary question above would be to remain in Turkey for those remaining two weeks. As in, if I'm going to Turkey, I'm going to Turkey and when I come back for Greece I will be in Greece.
I feel you'll be so enchanted by Turkey after two weeks that you'll delight in the added time and deeper dive. One could only scratch the surface in that time anyway.
My opinion, Age 56, two dozen trips to Europe. Either way, our favorite area right there; it'll be great.
