11 Days in Greece starting in Athens for 3 nights

My husband, brother and I are travelling to Greece in September 2020 and what some help as we are first time travellers to Greece.
I have already booked 3 nights accommodation in Athens and we plan on hiring a car to travel the main land. We are interested in going to one island and thinking of Corfu?
We are interested in more seeing the history in Greece rather than laying on the beaches sunbaking.
We would like to visit Meteora,Mt Olympus & Corinth and go on a cruise in the canal.
At the end of this tour we are flying to Malta.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Definitely go to Nafplio. It’s a lovely town and close to some excellent historic sights like Mycenae. It’s on the peloponese about a 2 hour drive from Athens.

Also if you like history you may want another night in Athens. 3 nights on arrival means 2 days and if you are coming from North America, one day will be jet lagged. Between the Acropolis, the 2 big museums, and the many other sights...you might be pressed for time.

As for an island it would be convenient to go to lefkada. An island that is connected with a bridge to the mainland, so you dont have to take a ferry. You can take daily cruises from there to other islands as well. Delphi (on peloponese) is also an nice place to visit and see the ancient sanctuary.

Thank you for the replies. I just googled Leftkada and it looks amazing. Thanks for the great ideas.
We are travelling from Australia and will arrive in Athens at night so it is perfect timing to have a rest and get going the next day.
