10 nights in Attica Riviera

We are visiting Athens with our 2.5 years old toddler and out 4 months old baby we decided to stay in one hotel ( Dolce by wyndham Attica riviera) to avoid packing and unpacking with a small baby. We need your suggestions on the itinerary we wre thinking acropolis, plaka, one or two day trips to nearby islands like Andros or Kea or Aegina. Would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. P.S we will have a car the whole stay

Your hotel is located more than 30 km from Athens, not the most convenient for visiting Athens, especially since a car is useless in Athens.

I agree with Jolui about the car. Driving in central Athens is difficult and parking pretty much impossible. To get into the centre you would be best to drive to the nearest metro station on line 3 - Doukissis Plakentias possibly. You then have a30 minute or so metro ride to Monastiraki which is at the bottom of Plaka and right under the Acropolis.

Andros is fairly simple to get to. It’s a 2 hour ferry trip from the port of Rafina, just down the coast from you. The most interesting town though is Andros Town - Chora - which is an hour on a bus across the island. A nice bus ride but possibly not with two very small children.

Aegina is much more difficult. You need to go from Piraeus which is the other side of Athens from your hotel. Line 3 of the metro now goes right down to Piraeus but it’s a long trek. If you have a car you might be better aiming for somewhere like Nafplio which is roughly 150 minutes drive each way and is a beautiful little town.

Have a great trip whatever you end up doing.

Thanks alot for the help! We are aiming to visit athens for 1 or 2 days and the rest of the days explore something else, we are abit afraid as we are hearing lots of news about high temperature waive, do we need to be concerned and think of cancelling our trip?if not what other things would you recommend to visit? i just saw that they closed the Acropolis. We dont mind staying in the hotel for 1 or 2 days

When are you planning to be there? The Acropolis closures have been when the temp is near 100F. It has been closed from Noon to 5 when those temps have been reached.

The Dolce looks like a nice beachfront resort, but is far from ideal for visiting the usual tourist sites in Athens. An hour drive each way and the time to find what will likely be expensive parking will eat up a lot more time. A car in Athens is about as useful as sunscreen on a submarine

Only Kea, of the 3 islands you mention looks to be a candidate for a day trip, assuming you want to do more than just ride the boat there and back.

The best option to go to Athens is the one recommended by Alan, taking the metro.
I recommend the Koropi metro station on line 3 (blue) 30 minutes by car from your hotel

There is a parking next to the metro station. (ULike Park - around 10€ / day)

By metro you get off at Syntagma Station in the city center.

Trips to the islands are most of the time impossible to do in a single day, and above all a waste of time.

The only daytrips you could do are:

Go to Andros Island from the port of Rafina by taking an early morning ferry (7:30 a.m.) It takes about 20 minutes from your hotel to go to the port of Rafina. The ferry crossing is 2 hours.

Once in Andros, to avoid getting stuck at the port of Andros and to be able to visit the island you will have to take your car on the ferry which requires that your rental company allow to do so.

The price per passenger is 25€ and 50€ for the car. (it's free for your child). The total round trip by ferry will cost €200.
The last ferry back to Rafina is around 4 p.m.

Or go to the island of Kea from the port of Lavrio by taking a morning ferry (8:30 a.m.). The port of Lavrio is approximately 1 hour by car from your hotel. The ferry crossing is 1 hour.

It’s €20 per passenger and €35 for the car. As with Andros, without a car you won't be able to do anything in Kea except stay at the port and wait for a ferry to return to the mainland.

Instead of going to an island you could go by car to Cape Sounion (about 1 hour journey from your hotel)
