10 hour layover on Sunday June 25th at Athens airport

My husband and I will be returning from Milos and going back to Istanbul. I am arriving at 11:00 am and can take a 9:05 pm flight (last one). The idea is to get a cab to go to Acropolis area OR take a tour from airport. So far, I have found George's taxi, which is a little pricey but is very convenient for an 8 hour tour (including transportation back and from airport). Any ideas, suggestions, appreciated. Unfortunately, I cannot spend more time in Athens but wanted to at least get a taste of it.

You could contact Welcome Pickups to have them bring you into Athens and also set a time for them to pick you up for the return to the airport from a pre-arranged location, such as the airport express bus stop at Syntagma Square. And you can also ask them if they have any guide services beyond just a transfer into town.

The metro to the centre takes 40 minutes and runs twice an hour. Given you will need to be back around 7 to check in that would still give around 5 hours in the centre. If you get the train to Monastiraki you will come out right under the Acropolis and would have time to visit the site and have lunch somewhere nearby.

One caveat: the end of June will be very hot and whatever you do will be in the heat of the afternoon. That might reduce how much is possible, depending on how you feel about heat.

i leave in Rio de Janeiro so I am used to heat. Question, is it easy to find a place to leave carry on luggage on the airport (not to carry it with me in Athens) OR if I go first to the Acropolis Museum, can I leave carry on luggage there, is there a fee?

There is a luggage storage service at the Arrivals level in Athens airport.

I think it will be the most convenient to move around Athens freely and to pick them up when you return to the airport
