10-Day Greece Road Trip from Turkey with Kids – Max 2 Stays, Open to Sea & Culture

Can you help us plan a 10 day trip from Turkey to Turkey by car? The car belongs to us, please not too much accommodation. We want to stay in maximum 2 places. We are traveling with a child on the trip. We are open to your plans like sea or cultural. so flexible.
5 adult and 1 child.

Two years ago, you asked similar adivice for a 4-day trip and knowledgeble Greece travelers advised going to the area around Thessalonika. Did you do that, and exhaust the possibilities there? Since you use the screen name "pelion" (altho you appear to be a Turkish citizen or long-term resident), have you conidered the PElion area? Many beaches, villages, etc. And that's the easiest access -- big ferry to Thessaloniki, then down the peninsula.

Also, are you planning to go SOOn - in height of High Season, with crowds & high prices? From previous postings, I got the idea that you also are trying to budget. That's a big challenge if you want to go now! Also, few of us are up on regs. about taking cars on ferries from Turkey-Greece; you'll have to figure that out. Eastern Greek isles that may be less jammed in July-August may be Chalki (tho fewer tourism accoms), perhaps Samos, if you're willing to drive to its Western side... the easiest-access tourism beach, Pythagoras, may be jammed with holiday-makers. I'm also wondering how much driving you want to do, with a fully-packed car (your last query mentioned a 5 year-old, so child must be another, small one). Would need more details to figure what's do-able.

Yes, thank you very much! We went last year, we spent 4 days staying in Thessaloniki, it was a nice experience... Now there are others besides us who are going for the first time, our traveling companions.
My suggestion is flexible;
But how does this look like?
We are thinking of planning a 10-day trip in Greece, entering from Turkey through the Ipsala border crossing. We are planning only two stays: Kavala for the first 4 days, then Thessaloniki for 5 days. From Kavala, I think we can do day trips to the island of Thassos and the surrounding historical/marine spots. Thessaloniki will be the center and we will go to places like Halkidiki and return to the same hotel in the evening. At the end of the vacation we will return to Turkey through Ipsala again. What else do you think can happen, I am open to every idea flexible... we want to make the best use of it. (Yes, we have seen Thessaloniki, but we will have friends who will go there for the first time and we will be with them).

You already know Thessaloniki, you've already planned to stay in two places, Kavala and Thessaloniki, and you've determined the number of nights in each. You've also planned a day trip to Thassos.
So, your itinerary is largely complete.

I assume you already know that Thessaloniki is a real pain to find parking and that you'll have accommodation with parking.

If you're interested in ancient sites, there are a few in the area:

The town of Naoussa (not Naoussa in Paros), not far from the site of Aiga, is a nice place to visit.

Yes and Parking was a big problem and expensive!! but the weather was good in December and it was a small, crowded and friendly city

I was just wondering if you have any suggestions for a better plan and wanted to ask for advice.

Yes, we loved Thessaloniki, especially the old town of Ano Poli. It's a very multicultural city with quite a bit of Ottoman influence.
Staying there with a car would be the last thing I'd do, even though I'm more or less used to driving and parking in Athens.

Did you know there's now a metro line in Thessaloniki?

I don't know what else I can recommend. We were also on the island of Lemnos, which is a four-hour ferry ride from Kavala. But for you, it's too far for a day trip.
