10 Day Greece Honeymoon - October

HELP! We have our flights and our hotels booked! Now we just need to figure out what we're doing at each place. Our itinerary is below and we're looking for suggestions on what to do at each place.

Day 1 - Travel
Day 2 - Land in Athens, flight to Santorini, land around 1 pm
Day 3 - Santorini (Oia)
Day 4 - Santorini (Oia)
Day 5 - Ferry to Naxos 12:45p - 2:10p
Day 6 - Naxos (Naxos Chora)
Day 7 - Ferry to Athens 9:00a - 3:30p
Day 8 - Athens
Day 9 - Athens
Day 10 - Travel

We don't want to be super booked with tours the whole time we're there but also want to make sure we're making the most of our time there. We definitely want to do the hike from Oia to Fira while in Santorini. We're also interested in a wine tour, catamaran tour and a guided tour of the Acropolis. Please let me know what you'd suggest as far as tours go and restaurants!

Also any tips in regards to riding the ferry, getting around in these towns or the Athens airport.

I hope you are staying at St George beach on Naxos. It is part of Naxos town so if it is warm you can get in some beach time but still have all the activities of town. Last October the beach areas other than St George were shutting down.
Naxos town is lovely with a maze of back alleys and the fortified Venetian Kastro at the top.

On your second day you could take the KTEL bus up to one of the mountain villages Aparanthos and Chalki are our favourites. October is a perfect time for hiking and walking on the island.

Based on many trips to Greece we have realized that time is more precious than money. We always fly back to Athens from Naxos. Why use 5.5 hours on a ferry get to Athens as quickly as possible and start your Athens adventure sooner.

I agree with Stan about flying. There are afternoon flights on Olympia that would give you an extra morning in Naxos. Plus, the airport in Naxos is an experience in itself.

We hiked from oia to Fira and took bus back after lunch. Wonderful. We then went down to ammoudi bay to swim which I would also recommend.

I'm getting anxious about our itinerary and am wondering if the one below would be doable and possibly more enjoyable for us.

Day 1 - Travel

Possibly fly to Athens on the evening of Day 8 or the morning of Day 9 - I've heard you don't need as much time in Athens and it's the location I'm least excited about anyways.

I agree. Half of our party flew home after day and a half in Athens because of work obligations. I had arranged a tour when we arrived and we saw as much as we could of everything else the next day. They certainly missed things that we saw by staying one more day but I frankly would take the extra time in Naxos before the extra time in Athens. We all really liked Athens but we LOVED Naxos. Plus, if we return to Greece, we will have to return to Athens but may not to Naxos.
