Booking.com does not always stand behind their reservations. I booked a villa with shared pool from Villa Philia through Booking.com in Aug. 2017. In mid-June, 2018, I received a message from the property saying “the house is not available those days.” With Booking.com’s urging, the owner found is another possible rental, but it did not have a pool. We ended up negotiating with another property, Villa Koumos, which was in a higher price range but was willing to allow us to rent for less than their usual minimum nights because they had space open. Villa Koumos was a superior property, so we were very happy in the end but we did spend more money than we originally planned. Neither the owner of VP or Booking.com contributed a single Euro toward the difference in price. Lesson: Beware when booking far in advance through Booking.com – your reservation may not be honored, and they will leave you high and dry. On the big plus side, we found Villa Koumos, which was beautiful and spacious with a fantastic view. The owner was very gracious. We ended up in a much nicer property in the end, and had a great vacation in Crete. i just want to warn others - Booking.com will not allow me to write a review on their site because I didn't actually stay at Villa Philia. I have since checked Booking.com's Facebook page, and it looks like many customers have had similar bad experiences with cancellations in many different properties.
