I would like suggestions for private transport companies other than shuttles/buses. that you would recommend. After a 13 hour long plane ride, I do not want to have to drag my suitcase to find someplace in the airport where I need to go to meet a bus. I would also like to know what generally the taxi fares are from airport to the Plaka area. Thank you.
We got a ride from this company, arranged by our tour operator, a few years ago, and it was fine. I don't remember how much it cost. This website estimates 38 euros from ATH to the city center (daytime, more at night) and links to another company, which I've heard of but didn't use.
I suspect your hotel can also arrange it for you. I stayed in an apartment in the Plaka last July, but even that management company offered to arrange it both ways. I think I paid €40/each way.
We had our hotel arrange a taxi for us a few years ago. It was around €40 to Hotel Hera in the Plaka. We had a delightful driver who was also a tour guide. We had a wonderful introduction to Athens! I agree, after a long flight it’s well worth the price for the convenience.
We always take a taxi, flat rate is 38€.
We used Welcome Pickups a few years ago from the airport into Athens and were very happy with the service. The driver will pick you up at baggage claim, and the company claims all drivers speak good English. The current fare seems to be about $45, but you can get a quote on their website with your specific date and time.
I used Blacklane from the airport to the city in both Athens and Rome recently and have used it in other cities worldwide when traveling for business. The driver has always been waiting at the airport, assisted with luggage, and offered water and hand sanitizer. All drivers have been exceptional except 1 from my hotel in Rome to the airport. It was a very early flight and we were concerned the driver was going to doze off! Otherwise, all Blacklane drivers have been wonderful with a very high level of customer service.
