My wife and I (mid 70’s) are spending 3 days in Athens after debarking from a cruise. What area in the city would be best for choices to stay for restaurants, shopping, and easy walks to some attractions. Thanks !!

Plaka district is a favorite among visitors. Locate it on Google Maps here:

As you can see it is next to the Acropolis.
It is lively, full of hotels, AirBnbs, restaurants, bars and shops. It's mostly pedestrianized, so from there you can visit most of the main sites by walking.
Of course you can extend your search a few hundred meters around this area.

We stayed 5 nights at the Electra Hotel on Ermou street. Easy walking to good restaurants and shops as well as Monastiraki square which is a fantastic tourist/shop/restaurant area at the base of the Parthanon. The hotel has a great rooftop bar with perfect view and outstanding bartender.
