We will we flying to Athens the day before our cruise departs. Need a recommendation for a clean, safe inexpensive hotel in Athens for 1 night. Preferred a hotel that offers transportation to the cruise port. Thank you

Any hotel will arrange for a taxi to take you to the port, cost is €48. I particularly liked the Hotel Herodion, close to the Acropolis Museum and has rooms overlooking the Acropolis. They have a sister hotel nearby Hotel Philippos.
I have also stayed at Hotel Byron in Plaka. Basic and clean and enjoyed the views over Plaka and Acropolis.
You could also look at hotels in Piraeus itself. They will likely be cheaper than Athens.

I suggest going straight to Piraeus for your one night before your cruise. You can drop bags at the hotel and take Metro back into Athens for sightseeing. Return to your hotel and have a convenient, short taxi ride to the ship in the am. Taxi or welcome pickups from airport to hotel.

We just took a cab to Piraeus when our flight arrived mid afternoon.
The Phidias Piraeus Hotel has large, clean rooms and it was about a 3 short block walk down to restaurants, a park and a large marina.
We were very fortunate to run into a glorious Greek dance festival in the park. Great atmosphere.
The hotel carried us 1 mile to the port and the ship the next morning.
