Here is our favorite in the Plaka: http://www.anafiotika.gr/en/
Manh manh nr acropolis in Athens.
Sous vide style cooking at a reasonable cost, amazing and delicious.
Ck hrs, on a second floor.
ATHENS- another vote for ManiMani. It was so good we ate there twice.
In the Kolonaki neighborhood, up the hill above Syntagma Square, a traditional Greek Taverna, not touristy at all, locals. Kafeneio on Loukianou,26. We took a taxi up and enjoyed walking back down to our hotel after dinner We avoid eating in the Plaka.
In Athens, Mani Mani was so very divine... God's Restaurant was a good one, prolly cheaper than Mani Mani. And a little mom & pop place across the street from the Acropolis museum (back side) that Rick lists in his Greece guide was wonderful, genuine homegrown dishes and people, not a fancy place at all and great for lunch, try the stuffed peppers with rice and raisins... yummm...
Vote for all these places mentioned. We were hesitant to try God's Restaurant because we were leary of a restaurant where they were hawking customers on the street. What a great experience -the maitre d at the time chatted with all of us near him; he speaks 5 languages and loves to try and guess ahead of time so he uses the right language when addressing potential customers. Then our RS tour ate there the first night! The mom and pop place perpendicular to God's Restaurant is great for a late dinner - it was SRO at lunch. We kind of let "Pop" decide what we were going to eat and it worked out fine
To Kati Allo-- ( "the one behind the Acropolis Museum")... we had trouble finding it, but returned 3 times
sitting at a sidewalk table , a greek salad , bread and white wine ...ahhh
YUM-- one word description of the food
It's hard to find bad food in Greece. Wish I could say the same for the wine. My RS tour farewell dinner in Athens was at ManiMani and if only I'd known how good it was, I would have eaten there at least twice before the tour. Aiolos Taverna in Nafplion is excellent, it's about a block from the start of the RS city walking tour.
