Best Greek Food In Athens?

Okay, I’d like a few votes for the best Greek food/restaurant in Athens. I will be in Athens in a little over a month after I leave Bulgaria and spend 11 days on Alonissos. (Sporades)

Now just to help this along I prefer authenticity to pandering to foreign tastes. I also appreciate a great setting and great service. Wine is important for sure and a great wine list would help. There are a number of great Greek wines being made. Cost is last on my list.

This will be an end of trip dinner.

I of course will be doing my own search but would very much appreciate some recommendations from those of you you have been and had memorable meals in Athens.

Thanks in Advance

The recommendation came from friends who are locals in Athens.

The RS Greece tour with guide Colin five yrs ago had our last dinner celebration in a GREAT place - help, all you veterans! - hope someone has its name. Expansive upstairs terrace, along/very near the ancient walkway skirting the Acropolis & parkland. Terrific Greek food, service, & gorgeous views over greater Athens, Lycabettus in the distance. Didn't hurt either that Colin was emptying the slush fund on carafe after carafe of wines. He'd taken us to many great meals throughout the trip, but this was quite possibly the best. Maybe the RS office keeps a log of their guides' restaurants??

Hmmm... We were on the RS Greece Tour with Colin Clement last Sept. Guess we missed the previously mentioned restaurant. Our last meal was at Manh Manh. Our all time favorite meal in Athens. No view, wonderful ambience, impeccable service, and best wine included (their label) we had in Greece. We actually ate there twice. Tried a third time but they were booked. It is located south of the Acropolis and about 2 blocks from Hotel Hera.

We also enjoyed dining at ManiMani twice on our last trip to Athens.

Balcony Restaurant, across the street from the Acropolis Museum, great food, we had our last Greece Tour dinner here last year, very good food and service, get a table up on the balcony over looking the museum.

The restaurant recommended by Stewart and Vicki above is STROFI. I tried to go back there a couple of weeks ago but it was booked solid.

Found it! But it's closed, damn. Was called Filistron.

geolowiz, thank you: you spurred me on to dig out that trip's memory card.

Plus I want to go back & eat at all the places everyone's talked about!

A big thanks to all for all the great responses and suggestions. I will put them on my list and look them up for sure. My time in Athens is more than a month away but I wanted to start thinking about this now.
