Athens Airport Hotels

We've stayed twice now at the Sofitel Athens Airport across the street from the terminal. It's kinda expensive but the you can't beat the location or the convenience if you have an early flight. Also, It's also walking distance from where you drop off the rental cars. We don't eat at the hotel but walk over to the terminal and eat at the fast food restaurants there.

The Sofitel worked for us, with an early AM homeward flight. For less expensive choices in pleasanter surroundings, see what you can find in the nearby town of Rafina. You'll need a shuttle or taxi to the airport unless you have your own car.

We stayed at Avra in Rafina. They have a free shuttle but we didn't use it. We had a rental car that we returned right before our flight at the airport. There are restaurants you can walk to and breakfast is included.

It is about 20 minutes from the airport so not as convenient but a lot cheaper. We also liked it because we don't like staying at the airport our last night.

What BethFL said about Avra. We did rhe same and liked it for the same reasons.

We’ve stayed at the Avra several times and highly recommend it. The free shuttles run about once an hour — you do need to reserve a spot in advance. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. There’s a great breakfast buffet (I think it opens at 6 — if you have an early flight they’ll send a brown bag breakfast with you on the shuttle).

What we enjoy most is the location. Rather than eating in the airport or at the Sofitel, you can wander down to the port and enjoy your first (or last) night in Greece at one of the many tavernas. Watch the sun set & the ferries arriving— it’s a pleasant way to spend an evening.
