Fellow Travelers, Do NOT miss Thea Taverna - Grill in Olympia if you are touring that area....as Mr. Steves implies in his guides Olympia dining is generally dismal as it is a staging area for short-term tourists. We stayed at the Hotel Pelops (a RS recc that was spot on) and our hostess recommended this restaurant as we were there late on a Sunday evening. It is a bit tricky to find (Floka Ilia ph 26240 23264) but worth the short drive from the center of town.
Our host/owner (Andreas Dagkaris) was most congenial - sharing olive oil for our bread and grilled cheese (amazing) from his garden. After several lackluster days of meals since leaving Athens, the food was such a relief to be cooked so well and flavorful. At the end of our meal, we had thought about dessert but were told - you should have fruit, and glad for that recommendation! Fresh, drizzled with honey, and scattered with pomegranate seeds...
ENJOY!! Robert Austin
