Zugspitze Alternatives - Garmisch April 27th to 29th

My wife and I will be staying in Garmisch from April 27th to the 29th, and we had planned to visit the Zugspitze summit while we were there. Unfortunately, we heard this morning that the summit will be closed for maintenance during our stay in Garmisch. We are very disappointed, as it was going to be one of the highlights of our trip. We would welcome anyone’s suggestions for alternative activities in the area.

On a side note, we will be staying in Munich for the remainder of our trip, leaving Monday, May 4th. We are planning to take a couple of day trips from Munich, including Regensburg (May 1) and Nuremberg (May 2).

Thank you!

Mittenwald also has a wonderful violin museum. Small and nicely done. Please watch those train schedules closely. Our train was cancelled (return trip to Garmish) and we had to quickly pivot to a bus ride. A bit longer but scenic.
The Karwendelbahn lift was a highlight for us however the trail on top was still closed in June due to deep snow. The restaurant at the top had stunning views of the valley below. Ask for a window seat.
Also, about an hour from Garmish by train was Lake Eibsee. An easy walk around the lake, snack break and a boat ride was about half a day but you could totally stay longer.
The St. Martin Parish Church in Garmish is stunning. It is worth a visit while in in town.
