Xmas Market suggestion for a day trip from Munich

I plan on going to Munich for four days and Salzburg for four days in early December to attend Christmas markets and see the Krampus festivities I would like to take a day trip by train from Munich to attend some other town market.

Please suggest which other town might have a good market, concentrating on unique or different items than in Munich or Salzburg. I am particularly fond of wooden craft things or unique toys for my great grandsons

Thank you

Nuremberg; it's world famous for a reason. Augsburg and Ulm are pretty good. Ingolstadt lets you combine that with the Audi Museum, which is excellent. For something really different, and a castle that's better than Neuschwanstein, visit Neuburg an der Donau.

I loved the Christmas market in Bamberg. Nuremberg was a crowed zoo with a lot of folks who guzzled a bit too much gluhwein. Bamberg was more authentic, less crowded and much more enjoyable.

Nuremberg is not bad during the day, but at night, it is super crowded. On weekend nights, it's crowded to the point of people not being able to move for prolonged periods of time.

Regensburg would be my top suggestion. Easy to get to, a wonderful old town and a lovely cathedral and palace.
